On April 22, 2020, President Donald Trump issued an executive order suspending immigration from April 23, 2020. This has caused a lot of confusion for customers with immigration records in the US in the near future. Below are the subjects that are NOT APPLICABLE to this executive order, namely:
i. Lawful permanent residents of the United States (with permanent resident cards);
ii. Those entering the United States with an immigrant visa to work as a doctor, nurse, or health professional, to conduct medical research or studies to prevent the spread of COVID-19, or to perform work that is essential to preventing the spread, helping to recover from, or limiting the harm of COVID-19.
iii. Spouses and unmarried children under 21 years of age of individuals in this category;
iv. Possessing an EB-5 visa (investment visa);
v. Spouse (married spouse) of a U.S. citizen;
vi. Natural child under 21 years of age or adopted child of a U.S. citizen under IR-4 or IH-4 visa.
vii. Entry required by U.S. law enforcement, as determined by the Secretary of State or the Secretary of Homeland Security or their designee upon the recommendation of the Attorney General or his designee;
viii. Members of the U.S. armed forces, together with their spouses and children; SI or SO visa holders and their spouses and children accompanying them under conditions determined by the Secretary of State;
ix. Entry in the national interest of the United States, as determined by the Secretary of State or the Secretary of Homeland Security.

The Executive Order aims to put the American community and workers first, protecting workers as they reopen and restore the economy after the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, the Executive Order is effective for 60 days and will be reviewed, evaluated and may continue or be adjusted depending on the actual situation.
Cases of preparing to get married, getting married or preparing to open a settlement application will not be affected by this Executive Order, so you can rest assured to proceed with the application as planned.
